WARNING : UNRECOGNISED COMPETITIONS

The only recognised and sanctioned competitions in Gauteng that FEDANSA couples may dance in are listed on this website. Click here for a full list. Competitions in other provinces are listed on FEDANSA National's website.

Other websites list competitions organised by other organisations/associations/foundations, etc.

The entry forms for these competions make it appear as if FEDANSA couples are allowed to enter by listing FEDANSA as one of the 'amateur' organisations that couples can be registered with.

They even call their competitions "OPEN" in an attempt to make it appear as if the competition is open to all dancers - for example :

• "SOUTH AFRICAN OPEN DANCE CHAMPIONSHIP"
• "Gauteng OPEN Ballroom & Latin Dance Championships"

This is not the case - they are misleading you!! Those competitions are not sanctioned by FEDANSA and couples are not allowed to compete in them!

FEDANSA's policy which prohibits participation in unrecognised (unsanctioned) events remains in place. It is a policy that is in line with our ideal of ‘one sport one federation’. It is furthermore a requirement by IDSF, whose membership we value, and is practised by many progressive sports in South Africa. Therefore FEDANSA couples are not allowed to take part in these unrecognised competitions!

Couples are reminded that if they compete in any unrecognised competitions they will lose their membership of FEDANSA, forfeit their chances to be awarded Provincial and Protea colours (as FEDANSA is the only body that can award colours for dancing), and will be stopped from competing in any country in the IDSF World Sporting System!

Action has been taken against couples who have competed in unrecognised competitions in the past, and we will continue to take action should any couple enter any of the unrecognised events.

This is not a rule that is applied only in South Africa - it is applied by IDSF affiliated bodies throughout the world. Nor is it unique to DanceSport.

Some sites even list these competitions along with FEDANSA competitions, which can result in confusion as to which are approved by FEDANSA and which are not.
